Juanfran Garamendi

I’m Juanfran Garamendi. I hold a PhD in Computer Science & Mathematical Modelling and have spent 15+ years working in data science and applied mathematics, building models and production ML systems in academia and industry. I was a postdoc at INRIA Rennes and at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where I later taught optimisation and inference in the MSc in Computer Vision. Since 2017 I have worked freelance as a data science and modelling consultant: I have led the research and development of reinforcement learning algorithms for adaptive interventions in healthcare and global health, owned the A/B testing of the product, and built recommender systems and computer vision models.

I’m also an ultracyclist, and I founded velodata to bring the two together. I apply the same mathematics to professional cycling: race and course difficulty, rider selection, pacing and why riders abandon.
